The school on Friday said OSU Presidentr Gordon Gee and Provost Joe Alutto will recommened to trustees that Joseph Steinmetz be appointed as executive dean of the Collegess of the Arts and Sciences and vice provosy ofOhio State’s academixc affairs office. Steinmetz is the interim provost and dean of the Collegr of Liberal Arts and Sciencesd at Kansas and before that spengt nearly two decades at Indiana If the hiring of Steinmetaz is approvedby trustees, he’ll start July 1 and be paid an annual salary of $325,000. The new appointment comese about a year after Ohio State to consolidate the budgetxs of its five arts and sciences collegesd and cut its deans from fiveto three.
The universitu brought in Joan Leitzel, director of the statr Departmentof Education’s Ohio Mathematics last August to staff the overall executivee dean post in the interim. Details weren’gt immediately available on Leitzel’s next careetr move. “Because we are in the midst of a structurao reorganization of our five arts andscienceas colleges, Joe’s success in leading this kind of enterprisde at two other universities will be invaluable,” Aluttio said in a release. “His distinguished work in behavioral neuroscience maked him the kindof world-class faculty member we alway hope to attract.
” Ohio State said Steinmetza is a widely published author who has served as editor of two behavioral science reviews. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Michiga University and a doctorate fromOhio
